Mysterious Treasures...

There's an old saying that truth is stranger than fiction, and it's true. Especially when you consider the universe is as infinitely big as it is infinitely small. No wonder it can keep us so interested! Many scientists spend their whole life in the study of one thing, and never reach the end of it.

And if there's one thing our own amazing brains love more than almost anything else, it's a good mystery! Here are some books that will keep you wondering, "What if..." a long time after you finish reading. Oh, yes, and it's easy to find treasure here, because it's all over the place!

Captain Barnaby's
Helicopter School For Bears

One dark, stormy night a single bolt of lightning struck two things at the same time.
One was a top secret AWACS plane on its final approach to Boeing Field. The huge aircraft was bucking turbulent head winds, heavy rain, and occasional lightning. The other was a trash dumpster behind a fast food place, where a homeless woman was headed to look for any left-over hamburgers. The metal was hot and steaming when she first looked inside.

Suddenly, there was movement under some newspaper and she carefully lifted one corner to see what was under there...

It was a cardboard box full of dead—oh, no! Who would do such a thing? But wait—one of them was still alive! Its eyes were sparking and cracking like electricity and its hair was standing up all over.

“Don't worry little fella,” she said as she picked him up. “I'll get you outta here.”

Which is what caused a chain of unusual events events to pop—just like popcorn—from one end of that town to the other.

   And his name was Barnaby.

The Young Scientifics...
An Exciting Middle Grade Series

Peter Baker has a dream of being the youngest boy scientist, by producing a documentary show he calls Dinosaur Planet (and getting famous). Which shouldn't be too hard, since his parents are dinosaur hunters. In fact, he's been working on real dinosaur digs ever since he can remember.

But his plans seem ruined when his father takes a job at a museum three states away, and his mother signs onto a project in Africa for the summer. Not only will he be unable to work on a dig, this year, he will have to keep an eye on his younger sister every day, besides.

Then he meets Casey Tucker, who is spending the summer with his zoologist aunt. A boy whose responsibility is to help entertain a monkey from NASA (who is vacationing at the zoo) for several hours a day. But Casey's real mission is to search for the lab of a legendary scientist who went missing several years before, while working on a classified government project.

At first, it's only fun and games. But it isn't long before the friends discover...

How dangerous some games really are.
